Introduction

Establishment of the Maharashtra State Farming Corporation Ltd.

The Maharashtra Agricultural Land (Ceiling on Holdings) Act, 1961 came into effect on January 26, 1962.
Accordingly, under Section 28-1(a) of the said Act, a total of 85,564 acres of land belonging to 14 private sugar factories was declared surplus by the Government and taken into government possession.
For the cultivation and management of the 85,564 acres of surplus land, the Maharashtra State Farming Corporation was established as a government company on March 6, 1963, under Section 617 of the Companies Act, 1956.
As per the provisions of Section 28-1AA1 of the Maharashtra Agricultural Land (Ceiling on Holdings) Act, 1961, the lands declared surplus were granted to the Maharashtra State Farming Corporation Ltd. at occupancy price under the Land Grant Order dated August 13, 1970. However, the disposal or transfer of these lands by the Corporation cannot be carried out without prior written approval from the State Government.
Furthermore, in accordance with Sub-section 3A of Section 28-1AA of the Act, the State Government has the authority to allot land belonging to the Maharashtra State Farming Corporation Ltd. for various public purposes as required.
